When Yoko hands Sayid the knife he says "If there is still good in you, then prove it." I think only a good person can harm Fake Locke (and perhaps only an evil person, Ben, could kill Jacob). So it could be Sayid wasn't sent to his death after all.

Hmmm. If this is the case then there is a way for someone to kill Fake Locke / smokey? And who is left that is purely good? Jack? Nah. Kate? Nah (and .tiff would have a heart attack if she turned out to be the hero). Sun? Maybe?

Reading Lostpedia right now actually, and they posit the opposite
theory. That only someone evil can kill Fake Locke, and only someone
good (Ben) could kill Jacob.
